NIO Inc. is a Chinese premium electric-vehicle maker founded in 2014 and headquartered in Shanghai, with ET5 production in Hefei, Anhui. The company differentiates through its NIO Power battery-swap network, which lets drivers exchange a depleted pack for a charged one in a few minutes; swap stations operate in China, Norway and Germany. NIO develops its own battery, motor and advanced-driver-assistance technology, including the in-house Shenji NX3091 SoC introduced on the 2025 ET5. Its vehicles compete directly with the Tesla Model 3 in the premium electric sedan segment.
